Dr. Pandurang Kane’s long and distinguished career can be appropriately described as a saga of dedication to cause of the study of Indian Culture.
In 1963, the President honoured him with the highest Civilian Award,”Bharat Ratna”.
The British Government honoured him as “Mahamahopadyaya” in 1941. The Allahabad University conferred him with the honour of D.Litt. (Doctor of Literature) in 1946.
Some of the famous works of Dr. Kane are ‘History of Dharmashastra’. Dr. Kane worked day and night for 32 years while writing ‘History of Dharmashastra’. This encyclopedic work was published in five volumes. The first volume was published in 1930, while the last one was published in 1962.
Dr. Kane was honoured with the ‘Pamashree’ in 1955; and in 1963, the President of India decorated him with the highest honour, “Bharat Ratna”.
